Description The frontiersman stands with his left foot forward as if caught in the act of walking or hunting. He stares into the distance and holds a rifle in both hands. He wears his signature coon hate and what appear to be leather fringed coat and pants.
Provenance The bronze casting was funded by Mr. Charles C. Bickel. The sculpture was presented to the city in 1906.

The statue was commissioned by the Filson Club of Louisville (now the Filson Historical Society).
