Artist Role Wood-carver
Title St. Charles Hotel Tree Guard
Provenance One of two dozen cast-iron tree guards commissioned by the City of Louisville as part of the 1991 plan to create a Cultural Arts District along Louisville's historic West Main Street. The concept for the tree guards was developed by public artist Jack Mackie in conjunction with EDAW Landscape Architects. The tree guards were cast from molds made of wooden walking sticks carved by artists from all over Kentucky. Each walking stick reflects a business or moment from Main Street's rich history. The original wooden walking sticks are now hanging at the Metro Development Center at 444 South Fifth Street.

This tree guard commemorates the St. Charles Hotel and is located at 626 West Main Street.
